TMDS Passes Surveillance Audit
Tundra Maritime Defense Services (MDS), the maritime division of Tundra Group, are extremely proud to announce that they have successfully completed the first-ever Accredited Surveillance Audit of their ISO 28000:2007 and ISO/PAS 28007:2012 compliant Security Management System (SMS).
The Surveillance Audit was conducted by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), who are one of only three Certifying Body’s in the world accredited by UKAS to conduct such an audit. This surveillance audit is conducted every 6 months and its purpose is to review the ongoing effectiveness of Tundra’s SMS.
Lee Rimmer, Tundra MDS’s Managing Director, comments: “This audit demonstrates that our Security Management System doesn't just ‘tick boxes’, but that it is being used as an extremely effective tool that allows us to deliver the highest standards of service and to make savings that we can pass onto our clients. We have always been clear in our vision of where we want to be placed in the market, and that is to provide the best possible service at the best possible price. For several years we have believed we are the best, and this audit provides further independent validation of that belief; it makes us extremely proud of our achievements and is another step towards Tundra MDS becoming the industry leader”.
ISO/PAS 28007 gives established guidelines to private maritime security companies (PMSC) that supply privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP) on board ships. Certification to these standards demonstrates to the international community that Tundra MDS can legally, safely and effectively guard seafarers, their vessels and cargo.
LRQA is one of three certification bodies that participated in the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) pilot scheme. UKAS was appointed to assess certification companies offering assessment to ISO/PAS 28007, verifying that it uses competent assessors with the correct qualifications and that rigorous, tested auditing processes are being followed. This is key in ensuring the confidence of the shipping market.
