Severn Trent De Nora?s MARINER OMNIPURE? Series M55 Marine Sewage Treatment System Selected for Use Aboard Australian Patrol Boats

The MARINER OMNIPURE sewage treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has been installed on Cape St George, a new patrol boat designed and constructed by Austal for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. Cape St George is the first in a series of eight patrol boats to be delivered to the owners between March 2013 and February 2015, which will all be outfitted with the MARINER OMNIPURE M5508 system. The contract was secured through HMA-POGC of Australia.

The new Cape Class patrol fleet was designed and constructed by Austal, a global defense prime contractor. The 58-meter aluminum monohulls will be used to help protect Australia’s borders from maritime threats. The vessels can operate at 25 knots and have a range in excess of 4,000 nautical miles.

“Daily activities aboard vessels generate sewage that can contain contaminants that have a detrimental effect on water quality and the overall marine environment. In Australia, where environmental protection is key, it is important the sewage treatment systems used aboard boats are extremely reliable and effective,” said Dana Casbeer, marine and offshore product line manager for Severn Trent De Nora. “The electrolytic disinfection technology used by the MARINER OMNIPURE generates a powerful oxidant from seawater to effectively disinfect biological wastes, resulting in wastewater effluent quality well within the MEPC.159(55) requirements.”

The MARINER OMNIPURE M5508 system is able to treat up to 8,176 liters of black and gray water per day and features a bulkhead-mounted arrangement, a first-of-its-kind design with a zero floor space footprint. Since MARINER OMNIPURE was launched in 2010, 125 of the systems have been installed aboard various vessel types ranging from multipurpose vessels and LNG carriers to PSVs, yachts, fishing vessels and even floating accommodation houses.

Severn Trent De Nora will be participating in major maritime exhibitions during the course of the year, promoting MARINER OMNIPURE and the BALPURE® ballast water treatment system. Scheduled exhibitions include Sea Asia in Singapore from 9 – 11 April, Nor-Shipping in Norway from 4 – 7 June and Marintec in China from 3 – 6 December.
