She is the only object in the country named 'United States,' an icon of the 20th century that once called New York home, the fastest passnger liner ever built and America's Flagship - but her future could be in a scrap yard.  Without help now, this historic vessel, 100ft longer than the Titanic and once the pride of the American fleet, may be lost forever.  Facing the high costs of maintaining the historic ship, the SS United States Conservancy, is urgently raising funds and awareness to give them additional time to finalize a redevelopment deal that will repurpose the United States into a permanently moored museum and mixed-use development - potentially on the West Side of Manhattan.

The Conservancy, which has garnered national and international attention in its fight to save the ship, will be holding a rally in Herald Square, in Midtown Manhattan, on Friday, April 19 to raise awareness, resources and challenge elected officials to save the United States.
