Ocean Signal Introduces World's Smallest PLB at International Miami Boat Show

Ocean Signal is introducing the world’s smallest Personal Locator Beacon*, the rescueME PLB1, at the Progressive Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail.

With a small size and design that is typically 30% smaller than other PLBs, communications and safety at sea specialist Ocean Signal has carefully developed the rescueME PLB1 to fit on to any lifejacket and it is easily activated by one hand in even the most challenging conditions.

As with all Ocean Signal products, operation of the rescueME PLB1 could not be simpler. All that is required to activate the PLB is for the antenna to be extended, the protective cover flipped up and the button pressed. The retractable antenna and flip-up cover have been specifically designed to prevent inadvertent use.

When activated, the rescueME PLB1 will transmit accurate position data from its 66 channel GPS for a minimum of 24 hours while the integrated strobe light ensures maximum visibility.

Any safety product can only be as good as its battery capabilities and Ocean Signal has ensured that all of its safety products exceed statutory requirements for battery life. Following in this tradition the rescueME PLB1 provides an incredible 7-year battery life. Even after more than 24 hours of continuous operation and when the battery power is insufficient to transmit the satellite signal, the PLB1’s homing beacon and strobe light will continue to operate. This high intensity strobe light features a moulded lens to enhance the visibility of its efficient LED, and gives a powerful 1-candela light emission.

Self-test of the PLB1 can be carried out with a simple button press and in those situations where suitable test equipment is available the antenna is easily extended for the duration of the test and can then be retracted using the winding mechanism on the top of the unit.

The most reliable place to carry a PLB at sea is fitted to the lifejacket, but in situations where this is not possible a flotation lanyard is provided.
