Innospec Inc. are proud sponsors of Chris Fertig and Tyson Garvin, winners and new world record holders of the Bermuda Challenge.

Early in the morning on August 21st, Chris Fertig and Tyson Garvin gathered near the Statue of Liberty in New York City to begin the 780 mile open ocean run, known as the Bermuda Challenge, to St. Georges, Bermuda.  In an effort to break the world record set in 2012, race participants Chris Fertig and Tyson Garvin chose to top their boat off with diesel fuel and the appropriate dosage of Innospec’s EcoClean® Power Plus (performance enhancing diesel fuel additive).  After battling 2-3’ wave chop and broken propeller blades, Chris and Tyson still managed to cross the finish line at Town Cut Channel in St. Georges in a record time of 15 hours and 48 minutes.

Innospec’s EcoClean® Power Plus not only helped Chris and Tyson achieve a faster overall time for the Bermuda Challenge, but it helped them do so while using considerably less fuel than the previous record holder.   EcoClean® Power Plus improved the combustion of the fuel and ensured the fuel delivery system was clean and operating at peak efficiency throughout the entire race.  It also improved fuel filter cleanliness and allowed the team to complete the entire race without having to stop and change out fuel filters, which saved valuable time (ultimately helping them shave almost 6 hours off their previous time).

“We were very pleased with the performance of Innospec's EcoClean® Power Plus additive in our World Record Breaking Challenge,” said Chris Fertig.  “We look forward to expanding our use of the additive in our future efforts and see Innospec and EcoClean® Power Plus as an integral part of our plans in the future".
