Dometic Marine Presents Durasea Condensing Unit
Offering a durable and reliable air-conditioning solution for the harsh marine environment, Dometic Marine is presenting a large, commercial version of its DuraSea Condensing Unit at this year’s International Tug, Salvage & OSV Convention and Exhibition.
The unit is specifically designed to provide a robust system for use in the workboat sector and is ideal for special applications and on vessels not suitable for water cooling. As the only air-cooled condenser developed for marine use, the DuraSea Condensing Unit offers exceptional performance and long service life.
Part of Dometic’s DuraSea air-cooled direct expansion air conditioning equipment range, the condensing unit operates with the vessel’s existing evaporating unit to provide effective cooling of multiple on-board spaces including the pilothouse and crew accommodation areas. The unit’s BTU capacity ranges from 36,000 – 120,000 to satisfy an extensive range of vessel requirements for cooling.
The DuraSea Condensing Unit is suitable for deck or rooftop mount and offers a unique, vertical fan design which ensures easy installation. The system’s innovative risers offer the option to elevate the unit above the mounting surface to provide excellent water drainage and protect the coil from debris and saltwater.
For additional durability, the DuraSea features corrosion-resistant stainless-steel fasteners and all other external components have a protective coating. The unit’s control box and compressor are strategically located within a recess in the cabinet to ensure easy and quick access for service engineers as well as provide further resistance against salt water intrusion and corresponding corrosion.
Dometic’s DuraSea Condensing Unit incorporates a scroll compressor which reduces noise and vibration of the system while also maximising tolerance of liquid refrigerant and system contaminants. The scroll compressor also includes a low start torque to reduce the starting-current spike which can occur with all compressors, increasing overall efficiency of the condensing unit.
Also at this year’s ITS, Dometic is exhibiting its WAECO CoolMatic CR Fridge. The range is now available with a high quality stainless-steel (SS316) finish door option as well as the traditional grey colour. The five models offer refrigeration capacity from 48 to 136 litres each with a separately insulated freezer compartment (3-Star rated).
Like all WAECO products, the fridges have been designed and manufactured to withstand a vessel’s movement, as well as the wide-ranging ambient temperatures that can be experienced in a galley environment and also the various climates that the vessels may ultimately cruise in. Additional foam backing on the evaporator and extra-strong insulation to the exterior will ensure the freezer compartment temperature is easily and efficiently maintained at -18C, even in hot climates.
Traditional interior fittings are incorporated to safely and securely accommodate the widest range of food and drink between the desired +5C to +7C.
Dometic Marine provides an extensive range of HVAC and sanitation systems for the commercial marine, workboat and military markets. For installation support, after-sales service and maintenance and repair service, the company has an extensive network of offices located in twelve strategic regions across the world which are backed in the field by the world’s largest marine network of authorised distributors, dealers and fully-trained service engineers in over 100 countries worldwide.
