Somali Pirates Free Georgian Sailors after 1+ Year in Captivity

After sixteen months in captivity, Somali pirates have released the tanker MV OLIB G and its 18-member crew for a $3million ransom payment on Sunday morning.

MV OLIB G’s crew is comprised of 15 Georgians and 3 Turks and according to Somalia Report are all safe and in good health.  The 6,375-DWT Maltese-flagged chemical tanker is also reportedly in good condition.

The news was confirmed by a pirate known as “Deeq” to officials of Somalia Report.  He said that a group of his friends on the vessel returned after they received their $3 million ransom. 

The MV OLIB G is owned by Frio Maritime SA and managed by Frio Ventures SA and was hijacked on September 8th, 2010 in the Gulf of Aden.
