Vigo.- Shipyard Hijos de J. Barreras delivered ferry-boat “Volcán del Teide” to ship-owner Naviera Armas during a private ceremony. “Volcán del Teide” is the twelfth vessel built by Barreras for the ship-owner from the Canary Islands. Experience and advanced know-how have been put together to create the biggest and most powerful vessel ever built by shipyard Hijos de J. Barreras.

“Volcán del Teide” was launched in Vigo last July, and was sponsored by Excelentíssima Senhora María Ângela Andrade Martins, who is the wife of the President of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The building of this vessel involved a total of more than one million hours of effective work by the shipyard as well as by the auxiliary industry in Vigo.

With more than 45,000hp –the highest power ever installed at the shipyard, “Volcán del Teide” can sail at a maximum speed of 26 knots. We may also highlight her modern interior design that gives great comfort to the 1,500 passengers the ferryboat can transport –both in cabins and on reclining armchairs.

This ferry-boat is the last of a series of 12 vessels that Hijos de J. Barreras has built for ship-owner Armas since 1993, being vessels “Volcán de Tejeda” and “Volcán de Tauce” the first ones built. Naviera Armas has been the main customer of Barreras along these last years and has become the most important ship-owner in the Canary Islands and one of the most important ones in Europe.
