Ship Sinks Along Congo River Leaving At Least 9 Dead

An estimated 100 passengers are missing from a shipwreck that occurred last Friday along the Congo River near Maluku.

Search and rescue teams continued operations throughout the week in the Democratic Republic of Congo. 200 people did survive the vessel’s sinking; unfortunately, nine bodies have also been recovered from the scene.

The MB Mobek was not sailing for long and was carrying several tons of merchandise when it went down after experiencing complications. The exact reasoning behind the shipwreck is still unclear.

According to CNN, Maluku Mayor Papy Epiana told UN Radio on Sunday that authorities don't have a copy of the ship's manifest because they haven't seen the general or the commander. Officials still believe about 100 people are missing.
