Royal Caribbean Crew Member Found Dead in Cozumel

The body of a musician onboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas was recovered Saturday in the ocean off the coast of Cozumel, Mexico.
Monika Markiewicz, a Polish national, left the ship Friday, headed to the beach, but never returned. An autopsy of the 32 year-olds body revealed she drowned to death, and authorities say she also suffered a blow to the head.
Officials are investigating whether or not her death was a homicide.
Royal Caribbean says they have no intention of cancelling any calls to the port. The cruise line says they are working closely with investigators and are working with officials in Cozumel to ensure the safety of all their crew and passengers.
Several cruise lines have recently cancelled calls in Mexican port towns on the west coast, like Mazatlan and Acapulco due to increasing crimes against tourists in those areas. Cozumel has remained unaffected by the drug and gang violence.
