Pirates Release Greek Tanker and Crew After Stealing Ship's Fuel
West African pirates have reportedly released the Energy Centurion – a Greek-operated oil tanker that was hijacked on Tuesday off Togo. All of the captured crewmen onboard were also safely freed.
The ship’s operator, Golden Energy Management, stated that the pirates released the ship after stealing more than 3,000 tons of fuel.
Local reports claim that the pirates treated the sailors well because they were only interested in stealing the ship's cargo. There were 23 Russian nationals aboard and one Greek citizen.
Damages to the ship are now being evaluated.
