P&O's Ventura Cruise Ship Damaged in Rough Atlantic Crossing

Published Oct 19, 2012 4:47 PM by The Maritime Executive

Repairs to the cruise ship are being made in Southhampton after a crack appeared. One of the welds below the Laguna Pool deck cracked open during a rough crossing across the Bay of Biscay, leaving a two-inch gap width-ways across the deck.

The area was immediately taped off and people were told not to use their balconies.

The company stated that an inspector from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency is on board and the crack caused no structural strength or safety concerns.

The cruise ship is expected to continue sailing later on a short cruise to Belgium.
