MARAD Swears In New Deputy Administrator

Capt. Paul "Chip" Jaenichen (Ret.) was sworn in as Deputy Administrator for the U.S. Maritime Administration on Friday, July 20, 2012. He will start his new job on Monday, July 23, 2012. There has been no press announcement from the Maritime Administration as of yet.

Capt. Jaenichen is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate (1982) and was the 5th Commanding Officer, of the USS Albany SSN 753, from 10 September 1999 through 14 June 2002. His last duty station was as Navy Deputy Chief of Legislative Affairs, Washington D.C.

A retirement ceremony was held for Capt. Jaenichen on Friday, April 6, 2012. His resume has no commercial or merchant marine experience.

Bob Smeltzer, President, USS Albany Association, presented retiring Captain Paul “Chip” Jaenichen Sr., USN, a Certificate of Commendation Award, from the USS Albany Association.
