Falling Pipe Injures Offshore Worker in UK
An offshore worker has been airlifted from the North Sea Murchison platform after being hit on the head by a falling pipe.
Shetland Coast Guard has taken the 57-year-old man to hospital in Lerwick, Scotland, where he is being treated for head and rib injuries.
A spokeswoman for platform operator CNR International has told local media: “CNR International (UK) Ltd can confirm that one person was injured during routine deck activities on the Murchison platform at approximately 8am today [Sunday].
“As a result, the decision was taken to transfer the individual by helicopter to hospital in Shetland for medical assessment.”
At this stage, it is not clear how serious his condition is.
CNR International has been contracted to dispose of the Murchison platform which lies about 120 miles north east of the Shetland Islands.
