Brinker Achieves Industry Accolade

UK-based oil and gas technology company Brinker Technology has won the accolade for best well intervention solution at the prestigious 9th annual World Oil awards.

The awards recognise leading industry players and innovations that represent the best technological achievements or contributions over the last year. The finalists were announced last night (14 October 2010) at a ceremony held in Houston.

Brinker won the prestigious accolade for its patented Platelet Barrier Technology™, which is changing the face of the rigless-thru wellhead workover market.

Platelet Barrier Technology™ deploys free-floating discreet particles called ‘Platelets®’ into a flowing system. The Platelets® are specifically engineered for the size of the leak and the operating conditions of the system. Suspended within an engineered fluid, the Platelets® are pumped downhole, through the wellhead, down the annulus, and on reaching the leak, pressure differential forces entrain them into the defect creating a permanent mechanical seal passing full well integrity testing and certification.

Platelets® provide a fully mobile, compact and permanent solution that has the capability to manage integrity issues across an entire field. Carried in a briefcase, so negating the large equipment footprint required by a standard workover, the technology can be deployed anywhere in the world and is virtually risk-free compared to other, rig-based intervention solutions that are complex, expensive and can take months of planning.
Brinker chief executive Kevin Stewart said: “This award is a huge achievement for Brinker and we are delighted that the industry is recognising the potential in our technology.

“With demand for oil increasing exponentially on a daily basis, to be able to meet this we have to look at the reserves available in existing or shut in wells. This is where Brinker is completely rewriting the rules regarding the time it takes to find and fix leaks and previous assumptions about the viability of shut in wells. We are now enabling our customers to implement field-wide integrity programmes by bringing multiple wells back on line, in many cases, in just hours, which is unprecedented.”

In the time it would take to plan one rig workover, Platelet Barrier Technology™ can address integrity issues in an entire field. That means rig deployment can be focused on workovers where they are really needed, or for drilling new wells.

“Our technology unlocks trapped production in a field and maintains productivity. What’s more, we have deployed our technology on over 40 separate occasions fixing wellheads, casing, tubing and connection leaks over the last twelve months, achieving a 100 per cent success rate,” added Stewart.
