BC Ferries Chairman Named New Interferry CEO

The global trade association Interferry has named Mike Corrigan as CEO.

Corrigan is currently president and CEO of Canada’s BC Ferries, and he will leave this role on March 31 next year to take up his new post, replacing interim CEO Darrell Bryan.  

The announcement came at the AGM held during Interferry’s 41st annual conference.  Interferry chairman Mike Grainger told delegates that Corrigan was the natural choice for the position, stating: “His experience leading BC Ferries, one of the world’s largest ferry operators, means he comes to the position knowing first-hand what many of our members experience and how regulations being set for deep-sea shipping are not always appropriate for ferry operations.

“He has also served as an Interferry director for six years, most recently as treasurer, so he also knows the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead for the industry.”

Corrigan said he plans to ensure that the industry’s voice is well represented to international regulators and that members maximize the opportunities to network and share best practices.

“I am excited to be leading Interferry, advocate on behalf of our industry, focus efforts on passenger and operational safety and build the reputation of ferry operators around the world,” he said. “I believe the experience I’ve gained for the past 13 years in leadership positions at BC Ferries can be leveraged to good effect in my new role.”

Interferry represents the ferry industry worldwide.  The shipping association has a diverse membership of more than 200 companies – operators and suppliers – covering some 600 individuals from 35 countries. Together with facilitating networking and communications among members, Interferry has a central role representing the industry on regulatory and policy matters, notably through its consultative status at the IMO.
