Areva, Iberdrola for Offshore Wind Projects in France

French nuclear reactor company, Areva, has partnered with Spanish power company, Iberdrola, to jointly bid for offshore wind projects in France, both companies divulged on Wednesday.

Areva reported that per their MoU, they will be the only supplier of the turbines to equip the farms, and the farms themselves are to be developed by Iberdrola.  

Chief executive of Iberdrola’s global offshore division, Keith Anderson, remarked that the development of offshore wind projects is one of the key areas of growth for Iberdrola Renewables and in addition to the project in France, are pursuing efforts in the UK and Germany. 

CEO of Areva, Anil Srivastava, added that they are committed to bringing France their industry leading operational excellence in 5 MW-class turbines.

The government of France is aiming to harness 6 GW of offshore wind by the year 2020.
