Storm Death Toll Could Rise Again

Published Feb 17, 2014 3:04 AM by The Maritime Executive

The general cargo ship Corvo has lost two crew members overboard in the storms currently ravaging the North Atlantic. Two men were apparently swept overboard while the vessel was sailing from the Azores, Portugal, and 300 miles from shore. Wind speeds exceeded 100km/h and waves were about 11m high.

The ship began searching the area immediately after the disappearance of the crew despite the worsening visibility. The Portuguese air force, through its coordinating center of air rescue Lajes, has also been searching for the men.
