Gulf Production Unit Hit by Power Outage
Talos Energy has announced that the Helix Producer 1 (HP-1), which is owned and operated by Helix Energy Solutions Group, experienced a power outage at 1:45 p.m. CST on Friday while testing the ship power management system, causing a production shut-in on Green Canyon Block 237, operated by ERT, a subsidiary of Talos.

The HP-1 is a dynamically position production ship that is designed for safety reasons to automatically shut-in and disconnect whenever a loss of power causes it to drift from its static location. The HP-1 is stationed on Green Canyon Block 237 in 2000 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico where it is the host facility for the Phoenix Field which is currently producing at a rate of 13,500 barrels of oil per day.
All systems worked as designed with ERT, as operator, shutting-in the field and releasing the production riser buoy and, as a result, less than 1 gallon of oil was released. No worker injuries have been reported. Power was quickly restored to the HP-1 and all systems will be inspected by Helix, ERT/Talos and BSEE before coming back online.
