'Doomed' Carnival Triumph Breaks Free From Moorings at Alabama Shipyard

Published Apr 3, 2013 3:50 PM by The Maritime Executive

The Carnival Triumph has reportedly broken loose of its moorings at Mobile’s BAE Shipyard and drifted across the river. Additionally, three people who were working on the ship fell into the water; one is hospitalized.

Tow boats are on the scene working to move the ship back to the BAE Shipyard where it was undergoing repairs, reports local media.

The ship has sustained some damage to the bow and there is a hole on the right side of the stern.

The Alabama Port Authority says the Coast Guard is in charge of the scene. Media on scene noted that it also appears to have hit something and be wedged against something else.

Triumph has been in Mobile for almost 2 months after an engine room fire knocked out power, leaving the ship and its passengers stranded in the Gulf of Mexico for days.

This is a breaking story and is still developing…
