No Holes, No Leaks, No Hot Work According to CLICK BOND, INC.

Published Mar 1, 2007 12:01 AM by The Maritime Executive

Click Bond, Inc., a manufacturer of adhesively bonded fasteners, today announced a solution for reducing the need to weld studs to bulkheads or decks. Click Bond fasteners can also eliminate through holes. Click Bond is a unique way of attaching studs, standoffs, and nut plates through the use of adhesives. Each fastener comes with a plastic or rubber fixture that aids in the installation process. The fixture keeps the joint under constant pressure during the adhesive cure, and insures a consistent bond line. Bonded studs can be used to secure furniture, pipes, hoses, junction boxes and wiring runs.

The benefits associated with the use of the Click Bond fastening systems are:

•Elimination of the need for hot work and the costs associated with it, such as insulation removal and fire watchers.

•Gas freeing of compartments and tanks can also be eliminated.

•Ability to attach to structure without damage to composites or violation of structural integrity.

•Elimination of holes and potential leak paths, and moisture intrusion, improving long term durability and reducing corrosion.

•Potential weight savings.

Click Bond bonded deck board studs have been successfully used for three years to secure deck panels in the well decks on United States Marine amphibious assault ships. The have also passed Mil-S-901C, Grade A shock testing for securing furniture monuments and furnishings. Click Bond deck studs provide both axial and lateral float and have demonstrated 5000 lb. axial tensile and 10,000 lb. shear after accelerated aging.
Smaller diameter studs and standoffs and cable tie mount products have been used successfully in industry to secure wiring runs and trim panel attach points on naval ships, yachts, and pleasure powerboats, as well as to facilitate the retrofit of navigation, control, habitability and other aftermarket systems.

Click Bond’s fastening system includes surface preparation materials, adhesives and adhesive application devices, as well as a wide selection of fasteners and extensive test data. Our applications engineers can assist with proper selection of fasteners and adhesives to address your particular design challenge.
