•Hyde Ballast Water Treatment System aboard RCCL’s Celebrity “Mercury”
Cleveland, Ohio ??" January 2nd, 2007 ??" Hyde Marine, Inc., a leading marine equipment supplier specializing in shipboard environmental and security systems, is pleased to announce the installation of it’s 7th full-scale Hyde Ballast Water Treatment System aboard RCCL’s Celebrity “Mercury”. The system was installed by the ship’s crew and had no effect on the ship’s normal operations. Commissioning is expected to be completed in January 2007.
Hyde Marine has been involved in BWT since 2000, when the initial first generation system was installed aboard Princess Cruise Lines’ "Regal Princess". In 2001 four additional full-scale systems were installed, two on cruise ships and one each on a container ship and chemical tanker. In the spring of 2003, after the requirements were better defined, Hyde supplied an upgraded filtration and UV disinfection BWT system for the "Coral Princess". This system was tested extensively both on land and aboard the "Coral Princess" in the fall of 2004. The on-board tests demonstrated the HBWT System's capability to meet the IMO BWT Convention requirements. The “Mercury’s” system is essentially identical to the Hyde system aboard the “Coral Princess”. All seven systems were commercial transactions. The newest version of the Hyde BWT System has been fully commercially available since 2003.
•Non-Lethal Shipboard Security Solutions Available From Hyde Marine
Cleveland, Ohio ??" December 29th, 2006 ??" Hyde Marine offers engineered onboard security technologies for cruise ship and other commercial ship applications, including video surveillance equipment, remote operated searchlights and effective non-lethal intruder deterrence. The system can also be used for firefighting and SAR operations, as well as for ceremonial and entertainment purposes.
Hyde offers water cannon systems, consisting of two Sentry stations, strategically located on the aft mooring deck. Each station includes a remote controlled high resolution video camera, high intensity variable beam searchlight, and powerful water cannon. The outboard corner positions enable forceful protection of the rear sides of the ship as well as effective defense against attacks from astern.
The 2000 gpm water cannons have an effective range of 300 ft and are independently controlled to allow tracking of two targets simultaneously. A centrifugal pump capable of delivering full flow at design pressure is installed in the engineering space. Water is delivered through a single pipe to minimize installation cost and directed to one or two nozzles by actuated valves.
A 23x zoom video camera is located inside the searchlight housing, which is mounted on a platform directly on top of the water cannon. The searchlight can be used in flood mode for scanning at night. Once an object/intruder is detected, the high intensity (45 million candlepower) beam can be quickly focused and used to ward off the target as well as partially blind advancing intruders. If necessary, one or both water cannons are brought online by the operator with the press of a button and directed at the illuminated target.
The Hyde remote control station can be located on the bridge or ECR and can be integrated into the ship’s existing control consoles. The operator simultaneously monitors each camera, while an azimuth indicator provides accurate directional information. A primary joystick is used to control each water cannon, video, and searchlight in unison. A second joystick is provided for positioning each light and camera unit independent of the cannon. Buttons at the control station provide camera zoom in/out capabilities as well as searchlight flood/spot control. A local control is provided at each Sentry station.
Hyde offers complete, fully automated packages, adapted to the owner’s specific requirements, including the pump motor and starter, a system main control panel, and all automatic valves. Ship checks, supervisory installation service, commissioning and training are also available. Hyde also offers LifeShieldTM blast protective panels and hull coatings and fully automatic external fire fighting systems for coverage of balconies and outside deck areas.
•Environmental Technologies from Hyde Marine
Cleveland, Ohio ??" December 29th, 2006 ??" Hyde Marine, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of environmental and security solutions for the marine and oil spill response industries, is pleased to several unique environmental technologies. Hyde continues to refine its shipboard environmental equipment capabilities to meet increasing regulatory demands and to provide reliable and cost effective solutions for its marine customers.
Hyde offers robust, powerful and effective UV disinfection systems for many shipboard applications including; ballast water treatment, drinking water, treated sewage and gray water effluent, swimming pools and spas, air duct disinfection, and disinfection of virtually any water based waste stream. Shipboard proven Hyde Marine UV systems are available as completely engineered and fully automated turnkey systems adapted to the specific application and the special requirements of the shipboard environment. The same proven technologies are also available for offshore applications.
Hyde Marine is also pleased to offer other unique shipboard environmental technologies. The JMAR BioSentry™ monitors microorganisms in drinking water, swimming pool and spa water, and other water systems and has the capability of detecting and instantly reporting the presence of E-Coli, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, and Legionella as well as several other organisms. The first shipboard BioSentry™ system was recently successfully tested aboard a cruise ship.
The Ensolve PetroLiminator is one the most innovative OWS concepts yet developed for oily bilge water. The system is designed to operate 24/7 and requires very little maintenance or operator attention. Hyde recently delivered the 5th PetroLiminator system to a Great Lakes bulk carrier and will soon deliver the 6th. The results with the first four systems have been exceptional. Hyde believes that this unique technology has great potential for all types of ships.
Hyde has supplied Hyde Mud Remover for more than 40 years to Great Lakes ships and many other vessels worldwide that occasionally ballast in shallow water. This unique non-toxic chemical product helps remove and reduce the accumulation of sediments in ballast tanks and will also help ship operators meet the requirements of the 2004 IMO Int’l Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediment.
