McMoran Expects Approval of Main Pass Energy Hub

McMoran Energy Co. has announced in a November 30 press release that the public comment period for the Main Pass Energy Hub has expired, with no opposition recorded. The offshore LNG facility, proposed to be built about 20 miles to the east of the mouth of the Mississippi River, appears to be headed for approval from government regulatory bodies. McMoran says that they expect “the Maritime Administration to issue a positive record of decision on the project by January 3, 2007.”

McMoran characterized the prospect of a positive record of decision as “an important milestone as McMoRan continues to pursue the highly attractive commercial potential for the project.” If permitted and built, the offshore gas port could provide regasification capacity of up to 1.6 Bcf per day. McMoRan also said that they are continuing to discuss commercial arrangements with potential LNG suppliers and gas marketers

The New Orleans-based energy producer is an independent public company engaged in the exploration, development and production of oil and natural gas offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and onshore in the Gulf Coast areas.
