Texas Gets Three More Ghost Fleet Ships

The "Santa Isabel," "American Ranger," and the "Mormacwave" are being sent to ESCO Marine of Brownsville, Texas. There are another sixty decommissioned Navy ships still in Virginia's James River fleet, and another forty more nationwide that must be deposed of by the September, 2006 congressional deadline.

The first three ships will be scrapped at Marine Metals of Texas, and with this new contract with ESCO, six ships will leave for disposal this year. These six ships were supposed to go to England, but with the Able U.K. delayed because of legal issues, MARAD decided to dispose of them in the U.S.
