120 Stranded Aboard Ship Due to Extreme Flooding
British tourists are stuck on a cruise ship in Austria after extremely high waters breached the vessel's landing bridge.
There are 120 passengers and 40 crewmembers stranded aboard the Filia Rheni along the Danube River. The river has reached its highest levels in 500 years and jetties have been swamped. Torrential rains forced their cruise ship skipper to abandon attempts to dock in Vienna on the river Danube.
Titan, the travel agency responsible for operating the cruise, stated that a pontoon is on its way to the ship to allow passengers to disembark. A director from the company is also heading to the scene to aid local authorities through the process.
Local emergency responders are standing by to evacuate the passengers if the ship gets swept away or hit by debris in the fast-moving flood current.
Reports say that there are enough provisions onboard to last for three weeks.
Floods continue to cause widespread damage across central Europe, claiming nearly 20 lives so far.
