The Women in Maritime Association, Caribbean (WiMAC), has launched a hurricane relief fund to provide aid to its Caribbean colleagues/sisters as they try to recover from the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria which have devastated several Islands.  The relief fund called “HURRICANE RELIEF FUND FOR CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES”, has been established to expand the appeal for resources to these badly affected communities.

WiMAC was launched in April 2015, in Montego Bay, Jamaica and comprises female maritime professionals committed to increasing the performance, participation and contribution of women in the maritime sector.  WiMAC has membership in fifteen (15) Caribbean Islands.

“As we all work through issues related to the hurricane, we want to offer our support to our sisters in the Caribbean in their time of need. We feel very much a part of the community and want to support in whatever way we can,” said Stacie Swift, Vice President, Public Relations & Marketing (WiMAC).

President of WiMAC, Claudia Grant said "Irma and Maria have left in its wake, a trail of devastation and for many of our colleagues and sisters in the affected islands, there may be a feeling of hopelessness as they consider what seems like a daunting task to restore their lives to normalcy.  The WiMAC General Council (GC) recognizes that this will not be achieved overnight, and even as we stand in solidarity with and pray for them at this time, through this Relief Fund, we want to also extend our support in alleviating in some tangible way, the post-hurricane challenges that they are experiencing".

WiMAC will be utilizing its National Liaisons to be focal points for the collection of Relief supplies. Persons who are interested in supporting this cause can channel in-kind contributions through our National Liaisons in their region. Monetary donations can also be made directly to our Hurricane Relief Fund for Caribbean Countries via our website at: www.wimacaribbean.com.

WiMAC is committed to being a leader in executing its corporate social responsibilities by taking the necessary actions to support the relief and recovery efforts of those persons affected by the hurricanes. We look forward to your support.

All funds and in- kind contribution received will be channeled through relief agencies in the affected countries to ensure support is provided where most needed.
