Full compliance with International Maritime Organization rules on Electronic Chart Data and Information Systems is helped by the Zero Downtime paperless navigation offer from Simrad.

The electronics specialist is offering three of its newly launched Simrad ECDIS E5024 packages per ship for the price of two installed. The ‘Triple System’ Zero Downtime offer is worldwide, and helps owners to stay compliant under the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention by always having a Simrad ECDIS E5025 available for use.

The per ship offer includes three Simrad E5024 ECDIS available for single installation, five licenses for online type-specific training and certification, and a 25% rebate on charts bought from Navico ChartService. It also incorporates a six month subscription to Simrad’s chart and services management platform ‘MBA’ (excluding weather) for only 2€ ($2.29) per day.

The SIMRAD ECDIS E5024 type-approved system was introduced in 2015, and offers an entirely new user interface that simplifies usage whilst meeting IMO requirements. The system is available in 24” widescreen display and has the option of radar overlay with SIMRAD radars via Ethernet cable connection. It operates with Navtor chart support for SENC, S-63, and S-57 charts from UKHO (AVCS), PRIMAR, IC-ENC and NOAA ENC.

SOLAS is progressively requiring all internationally trading vessels to be fitted with an ECDIS using Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs). Since July 1, 2015, ECDIS has been mandatory for tankers above 3,000gt by the time of their first subsequent survey. By July 1, 2016, the same requirement will apply to all 50,000gt-plus cargo ships built after July 1, 2013.
