Quantum Marine Marketing is delighted to announce it has been appointed as UK Sales Agent for Yara Marine Technologies’ range of exhaust gas scrubbers.

Under new rules set by the international Maritime Organization (IMO), the London-based UN Agency responsible for setting international laws governing the shipping industry, ships will need to dramatically reduce their Sulphur emissions from 2020. This means one of two things; either burning expensive and not universally available low-Sulphur fuel – or installing exhaust gas cleaning systems – also known as SOx scrubbers.

Yara Marine Technologies is a market leader in the provision of these exhaust treatment systems for the marine industry, with over 100 systems delivered and more than 1,000,000 operating hours. The Yara SOx scrubbers can clean the exhaust gas down to the strictest Emission Control Area (ECA) 0.1% sulphur requirements and the installation will therefore also make the vessel compliant with the global 0.5% sulphur cap that will take effect from 2020.

The Yara system is unique in being able to use non-hazardous Magnesium Oxide (MgO) as the alkali when operating in closed-loop mode, making it safer for the crew onboard to handle. As MgO also requires less dosage than the traditional alkali Caustic Soda, it is also more cost effective and requires less storage space onboard.

Peter Strandberg, CEO of Yara Marine Technologies, is pleased to have signed on with the UK based agent and officially entered the UK market. “We are delighted to have signed an agency agreement with Quantum Marine Marketing, a well-established company that has a strong presence in the UK market. Their record of success in selling marine environmental abatement systems in the UK market was an important factor for us in choosing this partnership”, Mr. Strandberg said.

Nick Dalton of Quantum Marine Marketing Ltd was also pleased with the announcement of the agreement. “I am very excited we have been selected to represent Yara Marine Technologies in the UK market. We are looking forward to working with our UK contacts and playing our part in reducing the environmental impact of their ships as the 2020 emissions deadline comes closer”, Mr. Dalton said.

Quantum will be on the Yara stand CO1-34A at Norshipping, Oslo, May 30 – Jun 2.
