McMurdo will display its award winning Smartfind M15 Automatic Identification System (AIS) Receiver as well as the full line of Smartfind AIS transceivers and the pioneering AIS MOB Smartfind S10/S20 at the 2015 Progressive® Miami International Boat Show, February 12-16 (booth 1620 in the Electronics Room at the Miami Beach Convention Center).

The Smartfind AIS receiver, combined with the Smartfind S10/20 and compatible AIS capable chart plotter, provides users with the notify, locate, track and rescue benefits of AIS MOB as part of a newly created, cost-conscious Life Saving AIS Plotter Upgrade bundle.

“Our new Life Saving AIS bundles offers boaters the opportunity to benefit from McMurdo’s award winning and pioneering products at a competitive price,” said McMurdo Chief Marketing Officer Randel Maestre. “This is also a great opportunity for our customers to use innovative AIS-based McMurdo products as localized search and rescue alternatives to traditional EPRIBs and PLBs,” he added.

Winner of the Yachting Monthly Best Black Box award and rated with five stars by Motorboat Magazine, the McMurdo Smartfind M15 AIS Receiver decodes all AIS messages that are transmitted by AIS Class A, Class B transponders, AIS SARTs, AIS MOBs and Aids To Navigation.

The Smartfind M15 AIS Receiver uses a computer with AIS-capable navigation software to receive AIS messages, which enables it to see other AIS equipped vessels within VHF range, helping assist with collision avoidance.

McMurdo will also display the Smartfind S10/S20 AIS MOB, introduced three years ago, which helped save the life of Clipper Round The World Race crew member Andrew Taylor. “My MOB training and equipment kept me alive, but my AIS (MOB) saved my life”, Taylor said after his rescue.

The Smartfind AIS MOB features a high precision GPS which will transmit position information and a serialized identity number, back to your vessel’s onboard plotter, enabling you to be quickly located and recovered. The AIS MOB will transmit continuously for a minimum of 24 hours and has a seven year battery storage life.
