Kevin Plank's Cupid Foundation Sponsors Youthworks Summer Jobs

New Era Academy announced that Kevin Plank’s Cupid Foundation has sponsored 40 summer Youthworks positions for students in the school’s Transportation Technologies (TransTech) program, providing exposure to various careers in the maritime industry.

“We are pleased that this gift from the Cupid Foundation has enabled our students to obtain valuable experiences that will help prepare them for the workforce and build their careers,” said New Era Academy Interim Principal, Kia J. Harper. “We understand that students deserve our support and need productive engagement between June and September, so New Era and our partners continue to work hard to find opportunities for our students during the summer.”

Plank Industries CEO, Tom Geddes said, “Partnering with New Era Academy has been a wonderful opportunity for us to strengthen and expand our commitment to educational opportunities for young people in Baltimore. We are grateful for the leadership of the Mayor and City Council President in making summer youth employment a priority.”

Working with Youthworks Baltimore, students will be assigned to various employers who have volunteered to train and employ the students over a five-week period. In addition to New Era Academy, students will be placed at the following worksites:

• Maryland Port Authority

• Baltimore Parks and Recreation

• The Wicklein Group

• N.S. Savannah acting through Mega-Tech Services, LLC

• WWL Logistics

• NYK Lines

• John S. Connor, Inc.

• Law Offices of Paul Shelton

• Maryland Pilots

• Ports America

• Watermark’s Baltimore Cruise Vessels

Students will participate in either Session One of Youthworks from June 26 through July 28 or Session Two from July 10 through August 11. During the summer, New Era Academy will stay in touch with the participating students to help with any issues that may arise and answer any questions they may have.
