Human Rights at Sea Adviser Awarded MBE

Human Rights at Sea Diversity and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Adviser, Lieutenant-Commander Samantha Truelove Royal Navy, has been awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her work in the area of Diversity and Inclusion and her contribution to women’s sport in HM Armed Forces.

Samantha said: “I’m most grateful for this recognition but share it with all those who believe in me and support me and who continue to make life better for others, in whatever sphere that might be – from charity to sport, from raising awareness or simply being there for someone, every little thing does make a difference.”

Samantha is also the Diversity and LGBT adviser for Human Rights at Sea and in response to her award said: “I am honored to be recognized for my work in the diversity sphere and am proud to support HRAS as an adviser, I am very much looking forward to contributing to the International Maritime Human Rights conference in September next year. I look forward to raising awareness of all those at sea that are mistreated whether by gender, sexual orientation or gender identity as human rights apply to all, per mare per terram!”

CEO Human Rights at Sea, David Hammond, said: “Having previously served at sea alongside Samantha in the North Arabian Gulf in 2008 I am delighted for her for such a superb achievement, though I am not surprised at the award of an MBE for her services for Diversity and Inclusion and contribution to women’s sport. The award reflects her professionalism and tenacity and it is the reason why Samantha was brought onboard with the Charity in order to assist in the development of our own Diversity and LGBT at Sea work areas for the maritime space.”
