Swiftships Wins Iraqi Navy Contract

Published Sep 26, 2014 7:13 PM by The Maritime Executive

Swiftships has officially been awarded the Continuous Lifecycle Support (CLS) contract for the Iraq Navy (IqN). The CLS program will provide technical expertise in preventative and planned maintenance, emergent repairs, and platform overhaul support services for Iraqi patrol boats, offshore vessels, and defender boats. Work will be performed on Umm Qasr Naval Base, Iraq, and is expected to be completed by October 2015.

"We have been in Iraq for several months for the maintenance of our 35m patrol boats built for the IqN. Our team's goal is to keep the IqNs mission at the highest order - ensuring the tasks for the Iraq Navy to keep its oil platforms safe are met," says Shehraze Shah, CEO, Swiftships.

Swiftships has also signed two contracts for the construction of two 75 foot steel push boats for J&M Marine and White Dove Marine. These boats will be USCG certified and have a four level superstructure with accommodations for seven persons. Housing two engines generating 2,000 horsepower, this boat will produce speeds in excess of 12 knots. The two new builds will mimic the push boats currently under construction for Dupre Marine.

In other news, since Swift Academy's opening, Swiftships has welcomed seven new welders to its production team. Jessie Wesley, Bryan Briones, Earl Deare, Wardel Johnson III, Dewan Edmond, Johnny Riles, and Markita Washington, have all passed the USCG aluminum welding certification test after spending several weeks of training under the instruction of Swift Academy's welding instructors. The program at Swiftships offers opportunities for individuals with some experience in welding to learn and master the trade of aluminum welding. Upon certification, students then join Swiftships production team in the construction of military and commercial vessels.
