Rolls-Royce Secures Propulsion Contract
Rolls-Royce has signed contracts with China Oilfield Services Ltd. (COSL), worth £19m. Rolls-Royce will deliver propulsion equipment for two deep-sea research vessels and one seismic vessel.
All three vessels are designed by the Norwegian design firm Skipsteknisk. The deep sea research vessels (ST 259) will each have six engines, two main azimuth thrusters, two retractable thrusters, two tunnel thrusters and remote control systems from Rolls-Royce. The ST 318 design seismic vessel will be equipped with four engines, rudders and steering gear from Rolls-Royce.
John Knudsen, Rolls-Royce, President Offshore, said: “We have successfully delivered several ship equipment and integrated design and equipment packages to COSL and their attention to safety and efficient operations aligns with Rolls-Royce principles and products. We are delighted that they have chosen our technology for their three new vessels and look forward to continuing our relationship with them.”
The research vessels are to be built at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard for delivery respectively in the first and second half of 2016, while the seismic vessel will be built at Shanghang Shipyard for delivery in the second half of 2015.
