Gard Announces Inaugural Recipients of Scholarship

Gard is pleased to announce that the inaugural recipients of the Claes Isacson Scholarship for maritime education are Wang Wenhao from Singapore and Daniela Gladun from Sweden.Bengt Hermelin, Chairman of Gard P. & I. (Bermuda) Ltd. said, “Claes Isacson’s entire working life was committed to the shipping and marine insurance industries, and his special focus on education and training was keenly demonstrated over the years. 

“This annual scholarship has been set up to help young people finance an education at university level, with a view to finding work within the shipping and marine insurance sectors. Wang and Daniela are both intent on pursuing a career in the maritime industries and we’re delighted to award the scholarship to two such deserving candidates”. 

Wang is currently in his second year of a Bachelor’s degree in maritime studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Daniela is studying Shipping and Logistics at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, ahead of entering the university’s Master's programme in Maritime Management. 

Gard established the Claes Isacson Scholarship for maritime education in 2013. The Scholarship Committee received 54 applications from 13 countries, with each applicant required to present a plan for completion of his/her studies and how they intend to make use of the scholarship. The scholarship can be awarded to one applicant or split between two or more applicants each year.
