The Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors (CAGTC) offered its congratulations to President Obama on his nomination of Mayor Anthony Foxx to be the 17th U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

“As a central organization focused on advancing national freight policies, CAGTC looks forward to working with Secretary-designate Foxx to continue the great work USDOT has been doing to recognize the immediate need for transportation infrastructure investment, implement MAP-21 provisions and improve U.S. freight mobility,” said Leslie Blakey, Executive Director of the Coalition. “On behalf of all our Coalition members, I want thank Secretary LaHood for his leadership and a great tenure as Secretary. I look forward to getting to know Mayor Foxx, but can already say I am impressed by the fact that he appreciates the importance of addressing freight needs. He has demonstrated this by his commitment to developing the Charlotte Regional Intermodal Facility – a truly innovative approach, interconnecting rail, road and air to increase freight mobility.”

A commitment to investment in goods movement and dedicated funding for a freight program is critical for America to ensure a safe, efficient, reliable, multimodal supply chain that will continue to stoke the engine of commerce and support job growth. CAGTC has long called for a comprehensive goods movement policy with funding commensurate to our nation’s vast system needs.
