European Forum Highlights Sand Management

Published Mar 20, 2014 1:43 PM by The Maritime Executive

A sand control expert from BP Global Wells Organisation is set to give the keynote address at the 6th European Sand Management Forum later this month.

Mr. Dan Ryan, sand control manager with BP’s Global Wells Organisation, will discuss BP’s portfolio of sand prone wells as well as the challenges and opportunities sand management presents from an operator’s perspective.

He said: “The issue of sand management will continue to have increased focus from operators, particularly when looking at how to manage reservoirs as cost-effectively as possible. Across the oil and gas sector, there are emerging challenges in sand control in both producer and injection wells and we as an industry need to come together to discuss how to best approach these issues.

“I look forward to speaking at the European Sand Management Forum to share ideas as well as learn from other participants. There are vast opportunities for future technical development in sand control, and holding an industry event to discuss these is invaluable.”

The forum, which is organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section and the Sand Management Network, will see energy industry professionals gather at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre on 26-27 March 2014.

The conference will see presentations from BP, Total, Maersk Oil & Gas, Baker Hughes and other companies on chemical consolidation, sand control selection and sand management in various applications around the world.

A pre-conference workshop entitled ‘Sand management – drilling to production’ will be held on 25 March 2014 and will provide an introduction to the field of sand management.
