Danelec Marine DM100 Voyage Data Recorder

Danelec Marine, a leading supplier of Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs), today announced that its new-generation DM100 VDR has been type approved by Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH) in Germany. 

The BSH type approval certifies that the Danelec DM100 VDR meets all the revised IMO performance standards and technical requirements, as defined in IMO Resolution MSC.333(90), and complies with European Union Wheelmark requirements. The new IMO standard was adopted in May 2012 and comes into force July 1, 2014. After that date, all VDR installations for newbuilds and retrofits must meet the new IMO standards. 

“The Danelec DM100 is the first VDR on the market to be type-approved and Wheelmarked under the new IMO standard,” said Hans Ottosen, chief executive officer of Danelec Marine. “Our new Danelec DM100s are now in production, and we are fully ready to supply IMO-compliant VDRs to ensure ships worldwide are able to be in conformance with the new standard after July 1.”

The Danelec DM100 VDR, which was announced in April, incorporates the company’s revolutionary SoftWare Advanced Protection (SWAP) technology, which stores all programming data and configuration files on a hot-swappable memory card. If the VDR fails, the service technicians simply remove the memory card from the malfunctioning VDR and insert it into a replacement unit. The faulty unit can then be taken ashore and sent to a Danelec workshop for repair, allowing the ship to sail on schedule. 

Danelec is also upgrading its service network, in a move to provide fast and efficient installations, repairs and annual performance tests for the new VDR products. The company is establishing up to 20 Certified Service Centers, strategically located around the world, and also is appointing new sales and service distributors for Danelec products. Augmenting the company’s extensive service coverage in more than 50 countries, the Certified Service Centers will maintain a substantial inventory of replacement units and spares to ensure availability at short notice to ships anywhere in the world.
