Subsea Salmon Farming Project Hits Snag

Atlantis

The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has awarded just two of six development licenses for the Atlantis Subsea Farming concept testing project.

Atlantis Subsea Farming was established last year by Norwegian company AKVA group to develop salmon fish farms subsea. The idea is that the farms will be less exposed and therefore achieve greater productivity and fish welfare.

As a project, Atlantis started as early as the late summer of 2014, and a number of trials have been carried out that form the basis for the solution one now wants to test on a large scale.

The company is considering an appeal.

AKVA group currently offers both cage farming and land based aquaculture operations worldwide with complete technical solutions and service. It has offices in Norway, Chile, Denmark, Scotland, Iceland, Canada, Australia and Turkey.
