[Brief] On Tuesday, an accident at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg killed one worker and critically injured another.

The men were employed by a contractor, and were working on erecting scaffolds for work on the cruise ship Black Watch. A piece of steel scaffolding fell, hitting the two men.

The surviving worker suffered multiple injuries and is in critical condition, a fire department spokesman told local media.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear, and police have opened an investigation.

"Blohm + Voss deeply regrets this tragic accident," the yard said in a statement. "The security and health of our employees, external employees and all partner companies and persons active at the shipyard always have top priority at Blohm + Voss."
