Headhunter Inc. Receives 11 Additional USCG Certificates

Published Mar 2, 2012 11:58 AM by The Maritime Executive

The US Coast Guard recently awarded Headhunter Inc.’s HMX Sewage Systems with 11 certificates of type test approval making it one of the most trusted sewage systems in the industry.

Headhunter undertook a 10 day operational test at a USCG approved testing facility for a 5,000 gallon per day sewage treatment plant. The test procedures and effluent specification were all part of the revised guidelines published by  IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee in resolution MEPC .159(55)  that went into place on January 1, 2010. In order to receive USCG approval for shipboard installation, additional electrical and environmental tests - beyond those of the IMO requirements - had to be met. Exceeding in all the necessary tests, Headhunter was awarded 11 additional Certificates of Type Test Approvals from the USCG for sewage treatment systems with capacities ranging from 8,000 US Gallons per day to 50,000 US Gallons per day.

Headhunter had previously undertaken the same tests for smaller capacity sewage treatment plants from 600 to 5,000 gallons per day. These systems have been installed on drilling rigs, warships, and yachts and operating according to the new requirements for several years.

The HMX series systems are compact, lightweight, low maintenance. The systems feature easy on-off, automatic, odor free operation.

Headhunter Inc. offers the HMX series in several models and sizes to meet every need – from 8 to 2,000 people and hydraulic capacities from 600 to 50,000 Gallons per day.

HMX 6000 Series

The HMX-6000 series was designed for up to 80 people per day and hydraulic loads of up to 2,000 gallons per day. This series is offered in two versions – the frame mounted version that offers a small footprint for full engine rooms and the low-profile series, made to slip into tight fitting spaces. Various configurations and capacities are available in this series to meet the needs of yachts, commercial vessels and small platforms.

HMX 7000 – 9000 Series

The larger series of HMX sewage treatment systems have the capacity to handle up to 50,000 gallons per day and are among the largest marine sewage systems available. Headhunter’s patented cross flow filtration technique treats large hydraulic loads in a small space. All of the systems can be installed to meet the changing performance criteria and varying hydraulic or organic loading. The capacities of these systems make them ideal for the commercial marine industry. With type test approval from the USCG and the IMO, these units exceed performance standards and can easily be configured to exceed the most stringent changes to regulations.  With 15 different models available in this series, there’s a design to meet the needs of any vessel.

HMX Control Panels

Each HMX unit features control panels with industrial grade switches, contactors and motor controllers providing complete overload protection and visual system stats during operation. The LCD display gives level indications as well as equipment status and alarms. Additional control panel options include the addition of monitors for the ship’s onboard waste tank and control of associated sewage transfer pumps to automate the collection and treatment process.
