Bulk Carrier Pirated in the Arabian Sea
The MV SININ was pirated on February 12, in the Arabian Sea approximately 350 nautical miles east of Masirah, an island of the coast of Oman.
The Maltese flagged bulk carrier was en route from Singapore to Fijairah when it was attacked. EU NAVFOR reports there are 23 crewmembers onboard (13 Iranian and 10 Indian). Crew sent out a distress signal in the late afternoon Saturday, saying they were under attack. Aircraft from the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) responded to the distress signal immediately and photographed two suspected pirate skiffs onboard the vessel.
The owner and forces in the area have had no communication with the vessel since the distress call. EU NAVFOR reports they are continuing to monitor the situation.
