[Video] South Korea Ferry Drama Caught on Camera

Video released by South Korea's coastguard shows the scene that greeted rescuers called to the sinking Sewol ferry.

The 69-year-old captain and crew members are seen being helped from the capsizing ship. They'd told hundreds of passengers on board to stay put in their cabins where they waited for further instructions.

More than 300 people, most of them students and teachers on a school field trip, are dead or presumed dead. Coast guard officials said they'd urged those still on board to abandon ship but none of the rescuers went into the cabins.

Kim Kyeong-Il, Senior Officer, South Korean Coast Guard, said: "There is an emergency warning system on our ship. Through this warning system we announced that all passengers should leave the ferry and jump into the sea. We announced it several times."

On Sunday South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won said he was resigning over the government's response to the disaster. It was initially announced that everyone had been rescued. There's been an angry backlash over the slow recovery of the bodies of those still thought to be inside the wreck, and frequent changes to the information provided.
