Nour M, a cargo ship detained at the Port of Rhodes, sank on Wednesday due to strong winds. The vessel subsequently sank along with its cargo.

The Sierra-Leone flagged vessel had reportedly been seized after the Greek Coast Guard and other local customs officials detected thousands of illegal bullets onboard last month.

The vessel’s automatic identification system confirmed that the ship’s captain entered Syria as his final destination, but later changed it to Tripoli, Libya. Officers believe the cargo ship was linked to a network of logistics contractors operating for Russian and Ukrainian governments in order to get weapons to foreign regimes.
