Islamist Extremists Hack Mass Maritime Site
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) website was hacked on Monday, resulting in users being redirected to Islamic Extremists websites.
Students reported noticing the issues around 1:30 p.m. when using the webmail link on the Academy website. Several students sent a screen shot of the website and said they were re-directed to a website of Islamic extremists when they tried to log on Monday afternoon.
The school's firewall was immediately shut down for a short time, which locked out all communications from the outside while a review of the website logs was conducted. It is believed that the hackers were only looking to broadcast their message and that no files were taken from the website.
The Department of Homeland Security has been notified, and an investigation into the hacking will be conducted.
