Another Worker Dies on Goliat Construction

A second worker has died at Hyundai Heavy Industries whilst working on the construction of the Goliat FPSO.

According to media reports, a man 55 year old died last week after a heavy load fell on him from a crane at a height of five meters. A 3.5 ton piece of metal cut through the material holding it and crushed the man who died in hospital two days later.

He was apparently employed by a subcontractor, as was a man that died earlier on the project. Hyundai Heavy Industries has reportedly drawn criticism from local media that indicates the company might outsource more dangerous tasks to subcontractors.

Goliat will be the first cylindrical, floating production platform on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Eni Norge operates the Goliat field with a 65 percent stake, while Statoil owns the remaining interest. The Goliat field is located in the Barents Sea, north of Russia and Norway.
