The Northeast Coast USA Branch of the Nautical Institute will be holding a series of meetings to address the revised training requirements associated with the latest technology and resources on the bridge of today’s merchant vessels. Special emphasis will be placed on the area of Bridge Resource Management (BRM).
The implementation of the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping Code (STCW-95) mandated the training requirements associated with numerous training courses, including Bridge Resource Management (BRM). Therefore, instructors are now challenged with revising their BRM training programs to include the new equipment. However, the curriculum must still meet the requirements mandated by STCW.
The primary difficulty in implementing the revised BRM course information is that equipment “best practices” have not yet been established. In fact, numerous issues are still being debated throughout the maritime industry.
The Northeast Coast USA Branch intends to address these issues by inviting speakers from various areas of the maritime industry to present their specific views on the subject.
The first meeting will be co-sponsored and held at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS), which is located at the following address:
Linthicum, Maryland 21090
The event will begin with a social hour at 5:00 PM, followed by dinner at 6:00 PM, and presentations at 7:00 PM. The cost of the event is $30.00 per person. Overnight lodging is also available onsite at the MITAGS campus for $116.00 per person.
