BP Oil Rig Listing in U.S. Gulf

BP's "Thunder Horse" platform sits in deep water about 150 miles south of New Orleans and was evacuated on Friday ahead of the storm. BP said that the cause of the listing of the platform is unknown, but that there are no leakages of oil or other hazardous materials.

"Thunder Horse" is expected to come online later this year and its output is expected to be about 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The current problem may delay the output. BP says the platform may be listing because of excess water in its ballast tanks, and there may be no structural damage, but time will tell.

Hurricane Dennis killed 27 people in Haiti and Cuba, before ripping through the U.S., where at least four people are reported to have died. Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama have all been declared to be disaster zones.
