A Barge Breaks From Tug and Runs Aground on Columbia River
The barge, containing 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel, ran aground at North Head Lighthouse, north of the mouth of the Columbia River. MSRC and NRC, two national marine spill response companies, were on the scene, but, as of early Monday, were unable to deploy booms because of high winds and waves.
The cargo hulls of the barge "Millicoma" were empty, but the barge was heavily damaged, and there was 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel in a double-hull fuel tank. The barge is located near Cape Disappointment State Park.
