German Tanker Sinks in Hamburg

About nine dock workers and two police officers were burned by acid fumes leaked from the tanker and were taken to a hospital, a police spokesman said. No severe acid leakage has taken place by now, the spokesman said. Shipping experts warned that the sunken tanker was loaded with 960 tons of sulphuric acid and that an improper savage operation could trigger an environmental catastrophe. Police was investigating whether the 36-year-old tanker captain was drunk, as he tried to steer the tanker "ENA2" into a petroleum dock in Hamburg port. The container ship "Pudong Senator" suffered no damage in the collision and continued its voyage to the North Sea.
