Indian Register of Shipping Grants Type Approval to Medha Energy’s 92 kWh LTO Lithium-Ion Battery System

[By Medha]

Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has successfully completed the Type Approval process for the 92 kWh Lithium-Ion Battery System developed by M/s Medha Energy Solutions Private Limited, marking a significant milestone in the development and adoption of advanced battery technologies in India.

The system uses Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO) technology and is the first large-capacity LTO battery system of 92 kWh to receive Type Approval from IRS in India.

LTO batteries are preferred for Longer Life cycle, Superior fast charging capability, much higher Peak Power output and Higher safety margin.

The Type Approval certification recognises the system’s compliance with applicable technical and safety requirements and supports the wider adoption of advanced energy-storage technologies across the transportation and maritime sectors.

Commenting on the milestone, Mr. K Shammy, Divisional Head Ships and Technical Services, IRS said “The successful Type Approval of Medha Energy Solutions 92 kWh LTO battery system is an important step towards supporting the adoption of advanced energy-storage technologies in India. As electrification and alternative energy solutions gain momentum, robust standards, testing and certification will play an increasingly important role in ensuring safety, reliability and performance. IRS is pleased to support Indian technology developers in bringing innovative solutions to the market.”

The certificate was handed over to Mr. Vishwas Rajendra Moktali, GM – Marketing & Mr. Sahil Rajesh Prasade, Asst. Manager – Marketing of Medha Energy Solutions, on 09th October 2026.

The approval reinforces IRS’s commitment to supporting the development and deployment of new-age technologies and indigenous solutions, while contributing to India’s broader transition towards cleaner and more efficient “Make in India” energy systems.
